Favourite Reads 2011

I have to admit to having the biggest TBR pile in the world.  But in all I've read just over 150 books this year.  So how do I pick some favourites?  I am sad.  I have an excel spreadsheet and a marking system that I will never reveal to anyone.
This is completely random, but the favourites this year have been
Room by Emma Donoghue
I have to be entirely honest and say if I'd read the back of this book in a supermarket I wouldn't have bought it.  But this book was recommended by a friend who told me it didn't have a bad ending.  And with that safe mantra I read it and I loved it.

The Mommy Miracle By Lilian Darcy

This book has a fabulous unique twist on a very traditional storyline.  I absolutely loved it.

Before I Go to Sleep by S J Watson
This is cracking debut novel that has been sold all around the world.  The story of a woman who loses her memories every time she goes to sleep is totally captivating all with a dark thread running underneath.

Ordinary Girl in a Tiara by Jessica Hart

I loved this story.  Jessica Hart just makes this story magical!

When One Night Isn't Enough by Wendy S Marcus

I have no idea why this book picture has worked out smaller than the others!  But this was the debut story of one my fellow medical writers and it sizzled!

So what was your favourite story of the year?

Next year is going to be pretty busy for me.  I'm taking on the role of an editor at the Pink Heart Society blog, as well as writing three new books for Mills and Boon medicals, still working fulltime and trying to keep up with my two sons activities!

So, if I'm thin on the ground - forgive me!

  1. OMG. You work, you write books and have two young sons to take care of - and you still managed to read over 150 books in a year? I'm in awe. Please tell me your secret.

    Happy New Year.

  3. Thanks so much for the mention, Scarlet! I still have to get my hands on both of your books. I have trouble ordering from the M&B site but other U.S. friends say they can do it. So my New Years resolution is to figure out how!
Happy New Year my friend. Writing is so much more enjoyable when you have someone to share the ups and downs with!

  4. Whew, you really are going to be busy this year. I hope you manage to squeeze in the RNA conference this year as I'm planning to make it over again this year and I'd really love to catch up with you (and get you to sign at least one of your books for me!)

    Best wishes for 2012.

  5. I really shouldn't read people's best read books list - my TBR pile is already huge!! But I'm with Suzanne - how the HELL did you read so many books with everything else you were doing?

  6. Hi Wendy, the mention is well deserved and I'm looking forward to reading more of your stories this year!

  7. Hi Romy,
I am just about to send my form away for the conference at Penrith! My only question is whether to take the train, or try and drive. My sense of direction is awful but my husband and I stayed at a castle near there in November and the drive seemed SO easy. Then, of course, he was driving....

  8. Rach - you know better than anyone that reading is a disease - an affliction - which we both have. I get agitated when I don't read. The only thing I don't do is read medical stories while writing. I read all the others piles of TBR books in my home. I save the medicals for when I've finished and am waiting on revisions x

  9. Blimey, woman, don't you sleep?!

Although I have to admit one of my goals this year is to read more. I have so many books and I manage my time so badly I don't get to read nearly enough. I'm aiming for at least one a week :-]

    Yay on the PHS ed!

And agree with Romy, we are hoping to have a Minxy block that also contains some of our special friends!!

  10. Ohh how exciting to be a PHS editor! Like the others I'm in awe of your "read" pile! Looking forward to reading your next book. May be one day you can give up the day job (if you want to of course) and be a dull time writer. That's my dream anyhow! Caroline x

  11. Catherine in my dreams I sleep for 12 hrs a day - the reality is a bit different! Looking forward to seeing all the minxes in Penrith!

Caroline - I wish I could give up the day job but I don't think that will ever be a reality. I'll join you in dreaming about it though!
